This very beautiful historical museum houses more than 400 pieces of ancient artifacts such as pottery, bronze objects, clothing, ceramics, calligraphy, various types of weaving, writings and antique stones, most of which date back to the pre-Islamic era.
The very attractive building of the museum also has its own beauty and captivates every viewer. This very beautiful building is designed with extraordinary architecture and represents the art of Iranian architects.

History of the National Museum of Kashan

The National Museum of Kashan was built in 1242 AH by the son-in-law of Fath Ali Shah, Ali Mohammad Khan Sadr Isfahani, and due to lack of maintenance and neglect, it became an abandoned area and was destroyed at different times.

Approximately in 1337, after the Kashan Historical Monuments Preservation Association was formed, they decided to open a historical museum in the Bagh-e-Fin historical complex to reflect the ancient history and authentic culture of Kashan.
Therefore, in 1346 AH, this museum was officially opened, but in 1385 AH, it was temporarily closed for renovation and organization, and reopened in 1390 AH.

Map and introduction of different sections

The area of the Kashan National Museum is about 700 and its building has a square plan that is designed using symmetrical spaces. These spaces are created in the form of Iranian architecture and are very spectacular. This luxurious building has a domed roof with 4 skylights around it, which has created a light-filled space inside the building.
The Kashan National Museum is generally built on two floors, the basement and the ground floor, and has 3 separate spaces that are designed as a reservoir. Usually, the ground floor is used as a display space, and this floor is 4 steps higher than the garden area. If you want to go to the ground floor, you must first pass 4 stairs, a porch, a corridor and a museum hall.
The museum's exhibition space has attractive halls, where the tour begins in the archaeological section and ends in the contemporary section. In this historical museum, there are many valuable works, some of which have been donated to this museum by history enthusiasts and artists. In fact, considering the works in the museum, it can be said that this museum is divided into four different sections.

Introducing the different sections of the Kashan National Museum

Archaeology Section

The archaeology section is divided into 3 sections, prehistoric, historical and Islamic periods. In the prehistoric section, the works and discoveries of the ancient Silk Hills of Kashan are placed. People who buy a bus ticket to Kashan and travel to this fascinating city can closely witness these works found by Professor Grishman.
In the historical period section, a number of pottery and metal artifacts discovered from Khorevin, Qazvin, the Ismail Abad hills, the plains of Khuzestan and Lorestan are on display. The last section, which is related to the Islamic period, contains stone artifacts, glazed pottery, elegant and attractive glass vessels, and metal artifacts from the Safavid and Ilkhanid periods.

Contemporary Section

In the contemporary section of the Kashan National Museum, there are very beautiful glazed vases on which images of mythical stories, inlay work, and mosaic and lattice tiles can be seen.

The Book and Manuscript Section

Another section of the Kashan National Museum is dedicated to book and manuscripts, and exquisite manuscripts from different periods and with different scripts are on display. In this section, there are two volumes of the Quran with very beautiful illuminated calligraphy, three volumes of the Quran in early Kufic script, and several examples of the decrees of the Qajar kings.

Textiles Section

As you know, the city of Kashan was considered one of the most important centers of the textile industry in Iran in ancient times, especially during the Safavid and Qajar dynasties. For this reason, in the textiles section of the Kashan National Museum, examples of old woven gold fabrics and velvet are on display for visitors to enjoy.

Tucked away in the lush, historic Fin Garden of Kashan, the National Museum of Kashan is a hidden gem for anyone curious about Iran’s deep cultural roots. From delicate pottery and glassware to ancient coins and tools, the museum gives you a real sense of how people lived, created, and traded over thousands of years.
