This religious building dates back to the 7th century AH. According to some sources, the mosque was constructed on the remains of a fire temple, which had been destroyed following the arrival of Islam in this region.
The fire temple originally featured an entrance door that faced the main altar, and it included a designated area for priests. With the spread of Islam in Iran and the subsequent shift in the people's religious practices, this fire temple fell out of use, was abandoned, and ultimately destroyed. Following its destruction, a mosque was built on its ruins.
Parts of the mosque were damaged during the Ilkhanate and Mongol invasions but were later reconstructed. Additionally, it underwent restoration during the Zand dynasty, and further rebuilding took place during the Safavid dynasty. The most recent renovations occurred after the revolution.
Despite the periods of destruction and reconstruction, remnants of inscriptions and stucco work from the 7th century AH can still be seen on the altar. These features, created by artisans during the Seljuk period and adorned with Kufic script, serve as evidence of the mosque's ancient history.
