In the heart of Kerman, the Sanati Contemporary Arts Museum stands as a vibrant tribute to Iranian creativity and resilience. Originally founded as an orphanage in 1916 by philanthropist Haj Akbar Sanatizadeh, the site nurtured thousands of children—one of whom, Ali Akbar Sanati, would go on to become the “Father of Iranian Sculpture.” In 1977, the orphanage was transformed into a museum to honor his legacy and showcase the works of both Iranian and international artists. Today, the museum houses over 1,200 pieces, including sculptures, paintings, and mixed media works in styles ranging from Abstract and Minimalism to Pop Art and Calligraphy.
The museum’s architecture is just as captivating as its collection. Built with traditional Iranian elements like domed ceilings, turquoise tilework, and a Persian garden courtyard, it blends history with modernity. Inside, visitors can explore works by iconic artists such as Parviz Tanavoli, Sohrab Sepehri, and even Auguste Rodin and Henry Moore. With its specialized art library and rotating exhibitions, the Sanati Museum isn’t just a gallery—it’s a cultural hub that continues to inspire artists, students, and travelers alike.
