Attractions in Gilan | Anzali Palace Museum
Overlooking the Caspian Sea in the port city of Bandar Anzali, the Anzali Palace Museum—also known as the Mian Poshteh Palace—is a striking two-story mansion originally built in 1930 by Reza Shah Pahlavi. With its blend of European and Iranian architectural styles, the palace features elegant plasterwork, carved wooden staircases, and symbolic motifs like winged lions and lotus flowers. Once a royal residence, it was later transformed into a military museum in 1989. Today, it houses over 2,500 historical artifacts, including Qajar-era weapons, battle attire, and even a taxidermied crocodile gifted to Nasereddin Shah by India.

Beyond its military exhibits, the museum also showcases fine art, including works by Kamal-ol-Molk, Sohrab Sepehri, and a painting gifted by Adolf Hitler to Reza Shah. Visitors can explore displays of Iran’s first warship, the Persepolis, and view captured tanks and naval equipment from the Iran–Iraq War. The palace’s lush garden, sea-facing windows, and historic ambiance make it a unique cultural destination in northern Iran. Whether you're drawn by its architecture, its rare artifacts, or its layered political history, the Anzali Palace Museum offers a compelling glimpse into Iran’s 20th-century transformation.
