Pink Lake – Maharloo

The stunning seasonal lake, known as Pink Lake, lies 30 km from the city of Shiraz. In Persian, it is also referred to as Lake Namak, meaning "salty". The lake's waters are rich in minerals and salts, which are harvested for the extraction of common salt. The area of Maharloo spans approximately 600 square metres.

The rivers that flow through the city of Shiraz channel most of the floodwaters to Maharloo during heavy rainfall. The water in the lake typically evaporates by the end of summer, revealing its salty bottom. By mid-summer, due to high rates of evaporation and the increased concentration of salt, along with the presence of algae, the water in Maharloo takes on a distinctive pinkish-red hue.
