Mohtasham Garden, also known as Rasht’s “City Park,” is the oldest and most iconic green space in the capital of Gilan Province. Built during the Qajar era in the late 19th century by Akbar Khan Biglarbegi, the garden was once a private estate filled with carefully planted trees, paved walkways, and a grand summer mansion known as the Kolah Farangi Mansion. This four-story structure—designed to appear as three from the outside—features an octagonal room with panoramic windows, intricate wooden carvings, and a 360-degree balcony. Over time, the estate was transferred to public ownership and became a beloved recreational park for locals and visitors alike.
Today, Mohtasham Garden spans over 140,000 square meters and offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Rasht. Visitors can enjoy tree-lined paths, children’s playgrounds, sports fields, fountains, and even a library, all set beside the scenic Gohar River. The Kolah Farangi Mansion, once a residence for dignitaries, has served various roles—from a chess house to a traditional arts center—and remains a highlight of the park’s charm. Whether you're strolling through its leafy avenues in autumn or relaxing under its shady trees in spring, Mohtasham Garden is a timeless blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty.
