A Glimpse into Bushehr’s Past
The Taheri Mansion, now home to the Anthropology Museum of Bushehr, is a historic building from the Qajar era located in the coastal city of Bushehr, Iran. Originally the residence of Mr. Seyadat, Bushehr’s first mayor, the mansion was transformed into a museum in 2003. It offers a vivid portrayal of the daily life, customs, and traditions of Bushehr’s people, making it one of Iran’s most significant anthropological museums.
Traditional Architecture with a View
The mansion is a two-story structure built around central courtyards, typical of southern Iranian architecture. The second floor features a wooden balcony with a breathtaking view of the Persian Gulf. Rooms are arranged around the courtyard, including a large reception hall believed to be the alcove. The building’s design reflects both functionality and elegance, with traditional materials and layouts that accommodate the region’s climate and social customs.
Anthropology Museum of Bushehr's Cultural Exhibits and Daily Life
Inside the museum, visitors can explore various themed sections: traditional occupations like blacksmithing and fishing, clothing styles across historical periods, and customs related to Nowruz, Ramadan, and weddings. Musical instruments such as the Ni Anban and Damam showcase Bushehr’s rich musical heritage. The courtyard features agricultural tools and a replica of a Lenj, a traditional southern Iranian boat registered as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
A Living Archive of Bushehri Identity
The museum’s exhibits go beyond artifacts — they tell stories. From aerial maps and models of Bushehr’s old neighborhoods to rooms dedicated to traditional ceremonies and kitchen tools, every corner of the mansion immerses visitors in the cultural fabric of the region. It’s not just a museum; it’s a living archive that preserves and celebrates the identity of Bushehr’s people.
Exploring Bushehr’s Coastal Charm
Located in the Behbahan neighborhood along Bushehr’s coastal road, the Taheri Mansion is surrounded by other historical and cultural landmarks. Visitors can stroll along the Persian Gulf shoreline, explore nearby traditional markets, or visit other Qajar-era buildings.
