Tehran Time Museum: A Journey Through the Hours of History

Tucked away in the leafy Zafaraniyeh district of northern Tehran, the Tehran Time Museum — also known as the Hossein Khodadad House — is Iran’s first and only museum dedicated entirely to the art and science of timekeeping. Housed in a beautifully restored Qajar-era mansion surrounded by a lush 5,000-square-meter garden, the museum showcases an extraordinary collection of ancient and modern clocks, watches, and time-measuring devices from around the world. From water clocks and sundials to rope clocks, candle clocks, and ornate European mantelpieces, each exhibit tells a story of how civilizations have tried to capture and measure the passage of time.

Inside, visitors can explore themed galleries across two floors, including rare timepieces once owned by Qajar and Pahlavi royals, as well as artistic installations made from vintage watch parts. The museum also features a replica of the Bisotun inscription, ethnic calendars, and a library with over 10,000 volumes. Outside, the garden is dotted with large-scale models of ancient clocks and a charming café perfect for a reflective break. Whether you're a horology enthusiast or simply curious about humanity’s obsession with time, the Tehran Time Museum offers a fascinating and beautifully curated experience that blends science, art, and history.
