Arg-e Alishah, also known as Arg-e Tabriz, is a historical citadel and an important landmark in Tabriz, Iran. This massive structure is primarily made of brick and dates back to the 8th century AH during the reign of Taj al-Din Ali-Shāh Gilani. Although much of the original structure has been reduced to ruins due to earthquakes and other historical events, three large walls remain, providing a glimpse into its past grandeur.
Throughout history, the Arg-e Alishah has served various purposes, including functioning as a mosque, a military compound, and even a school, highlighting its adaptability and resilience. Initially intended to be a mosque and mausoleum, it later became a military storage facility, a foundry for cannons, and a military headquarters.
